Through this selection of biographical syntheses, the author wishes to share his interest in a segment of the history of our territory, whose cultural essence is a living testimony of the presence of foreign intellectuals who stayed or lived in Florence and in other locations in Tuscany during a period in which traveling was a luxury reserved for the few.

Massimo Antonio De Francesco holds a degree in economics from the State University of New York and is an English language teacher. He has published legal English manuals and poetry. He currently works in Florence and lives in the nearby countryside.
